Whakapapa, located on the north-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu, is the North Island's premier ski field and lies within the magnificent Tongariro National Park, a World Heritage Area.
An adventure playground for all abilities, Whakapapa is New Zealand's largest ski area with more than 65 trails across 1050 hectares. It is also home to New Zealand's premier beginner's area, Happy Valley, a complete learners area that is seperate to the main ski area, and which boasts its own cafe, rental complex, ski school meeting area and world-class beginner facilities.
Whakapapa's north-facing basin offers many steep faces, slopes and gullies, providing an adventure that intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders will love. Whakapapa even boasts a number of double black diamond trails, with its Pinnacles area being especially popular amongst those seeking challening advanced terrain.
With extensive and varied terrain that offers something for all abilities, Whakapapa provides some of the finest skiing and snowboarding on offer.
