High in The Remarkables mountain range just 45 minutes from Queenstown, "The Remarks" (as it's known to the locals) is undoubtedly the South Island's most spectacular ski area. Situated in three sunny sheltered bowls and framed by towering peaks, it is popular amongst young, hip snowboarders and freeskiers who love the terrain parks that cater for all levels from complete novices to competition standard. There is even a new kilometre-long feature-packed Burton terrain park opened in 2008 - only the third one in the world!

The Remarkables is also a great place to learn to ski with easy access to learner runs and a large beginners area, while those who are ready to sample life on the edge will find challenging terrain like you've never seen before and some of the longest off-piste runs around.
